SOC 222 Race and Ethnic Diversity
What does it mean to say that race is a social construction? In this course we begin with the assumption that the study of race requires us to take a critical look at ourselves, and to consider how notions of race have shaped our opinions, attitudes, and modes of engagement with those who are ‘different’ from us. We examine sociological concepts like racial formation and intersectionality through critical engagement with academic research as well as creative sources to gain the broadest possible understanding of the dynamics of race and ethnicity in everyday life.
