TRS 320 Religion, Race, and Identity in the United States

This course examines the role of religion in shaping our diverse society. We will explore the following questions: How have religious groups changed and been changed by U.S. society particularly racism, immigration, politics, and technological innovation? Was America ever a “Christian nation”? How has the religious landscape changed since the 1960s cultural revolution? What does it mean to identify as religious, spiritual, or secular in the United States today? Prerequisites: TRS 100 and EN 102. A course in U.S. history is strongly recommended as a prerequisite (HI 110 or HI 111). Liberal Arts Core Designation: Depth in Faith and Reason (DF&R). (3)
