PH 355 Death, Anxiety and Freedom

What does it mean to be free and to live authentically? What is the structure and function of consciousness, the relationship between self and other? How should we respond to anxiety, the sense that life is absurd, and the recognition of our mortality? This course examines such questions through perspectives from the twin philosophical movements of existentialism and phenomenology. Prerequisite: One prior course in philosophy. Liberal Arts Core Designation: Depth in Faith and Reason (DF&R).
