MUS 123 Great Composers

This course will explore in depth the life and music of well-known musical composers. A particular composer will be chosen as a focal point of study. We will review moments in that composer's personal life that affected their musical style as well as examine how historical events, social norms, political influences and religious thoughts of the day are reflected in their music. We will listen to and analyze the composer's most popular compositions and learn how these works have influenced music and events of today. Students will become familiar with musical forms and basic elements of music such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and pitch. Liberal Arts Core Designation: Fine and Performing Arts (FPA). (3)
