VIS 204 History of Modern Design

A survey of the development of design and the applied arts beginning in the 18th century, analyzing works of design within the historical context of changing materials, technologies, and modes of production, as well as patterns of marketing and consumption. Reference will also be made to contemporary movements in the fine arts, intercultural exchanges, and design from earlier periods. Prerequisite: EN 102 with a minimum grade of C-.  A minimum grade of C is needed for this class to fulfill a major requirement in the School of Design and Art. (3)
