IT 423 Senior IT Career Readiness Seminar

This course is designed to ensure students are ready for the workplace after their graduation, whether going on to graduate school or looking for employment in government or industry. It focuses on the future of work and the career prospects in individual tech fields. Students prepare for, or reflect on, the required for-credit supervised experiential learning component of the degree program. Students prepare and present a detailed senior portfolio, which includes evidence of their knowledge and skills. Students also work on understanding the job marketplace, including the impact of AI, by evaluating job position descriptions and tailoring resumes and cover letters to compete for these opportunities in today's automated hiring environment. Their portfolio contains evidence of their readiness for a high tech career and the possible need for graduate school or a security clearance. Students focus on continuing to develop their soft skills, including professionalism, and evaluate the value of membership in a professional organization. Students research new technology fields, such as AI or quantum computing, and give at least one significant group presentation supported by their research. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C+. Prerequisite: IT 323 with a minimum grade of C. (1)
