COMM 201 Qualitative Research Methods

This course introduces students to research design and qualitative methodologies through a hands-on approach, focusing on essential themes like the logic of inquiry and the suitability of qualitative methods in social science. Students will gain experience with data collection methods such as interviews, focus groups, observation, and content analysis to explore communication phenomena. They will also learn to use various tools specific to social science research. By the end of the course, students will demonstrate competence in their chosen method(s) by completing an original research project. Communication majors must earn a grade of C- or higher. Prerequisite: EN 102 with a minimum grade of C- . Liberal Arts Core Designation: Social Science (SS). (3)
