AI 511 Concepts in Artificial Intelligence

This course focuses on the increasingly important field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its use-inspired applications in education, business, medicine, and in society in general. During this course, students will examine the principles behind AI, its history, building blocks and the components of artificial intelligence, learning about concepts behind machine learning, data curation, neural networks, robotics, natural language processing, and computer vision, the major components of AI applications today. Ethics, bias and trustworthiness will also be discussed in detail to ensure any application developed has a positive impact on a domain. Students will explore a variety of use-inspired AI applications and evaluate the pros and cons of the domain. The course will also examine AI’s impact on all domains, including existing jobs, as well as its potential to create new career fields in the future. Students will leave the course with a solid understanding of what AI is, how it works, areas of caution, and what they can do with the technology. (3)
