IT 377 Understanding Cybersecurity Risk

Introduces students to the concept of risk in digital systems both as an individual, in society, and in business and its role in determining the appropriate cybersecurity measures necessary to minimize the consequences.  The course looks at best practices for managing cybersecurity risk and the various common frameworks, such as the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF). Social media risk is examined including postings, disinformation, and data collection and reuse. Cybercriminal activity is researched and the role of the Dark Web evaluated. Students must achieve a minimum grade of C. Prerequisite: IT 120 with a grade of C or higher. (3)
