SLP 630 Communication and Swallowing in Adults with Acquired or Degenerative Impairments

Identification, prevention, evaluation and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders that occur as an adult as acquired disorder or degenerative disorder. Topics include swallowing disorders, motor speech disorders, social aspects of communication, cognition and cognitive disorders, and expressive and receptive language and literacy disorders. Emphasis is placed on culturally relevant assessment and intervention practices that address the needs of multilingual, racially, and culturally diverse populations. Students will learn to apply inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive strategies to support the communication and swallowing needs of all individuals. Anti-racist pedagogy is integrated to promote awareness of biases and inequalities within the field, fostering a commitment to equitable and just speech-language pathology practices. Students must achieve a minimum grade of B. Prerequisites: SLP 610, SLP 611, SLP 612, SLP 620, SLP 621, and SLP 622. (4)
